Unfortunately, so was the guy who played the lead, Dev Patel. Even though he must have had an accent coach, his British accent often sticks out like a sore thumb against the backdrop of the slum. The guy who played Jamal in the in-between years (between a little boy and the grown up) had too much of a Cathedral & John Connon accent (even in his Hindi) to be believable. Then again, the target audience was never Indian. Having said that, have a look at "Outsourced". If you think "Slumdog Millionaire" panders to the western audiences, this one is an order of magnitude worse than anything you'll ever see. (Apropos your Latin, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Per_se).
